Monkey See, Monkey Do

Jayden was kicking around on the floor this morning while I was checking my e-mail and Miya was putzing around. She heard Jayden toot and went running to check on her. She came back into the room I was in to tell me that Jayden 'tooted' and was 'stinky' and needed her 'diaper changed' she grabbed the wipes and went running out of the room towards Jayden. I grabbed my camera and tried to capture the Kodak moment and tried to stay hidden at the same time.

She took Jayden's pants off all by herself. She then lifted her legs up to wipe her with a wipe. She tried to undue the snaps on Jayden's onezie, but to no avail, so she kept on wiping on top of Jayden's onezie. It was very cute. Surprisingly, Miya was even gentle with Jayden. Jayden loved it, she was cooing the whole time!

Memorial Day Weekend

What a fun weekend the Westra family had. On Saturday Jeff helped plant the garden. He even left for a while with Miya and came back with more plants to add to the garden. He did a great job of showing Miya how to water the plants...now we just need to teach her how to NOT walk on them! On Memorial Day we went to the parade and Miya got enough candy to last us a year. She really had no interest in eating it, she just wanted to pick it up and put it into the bag.
After the parade the family went to Binder Park Zoo in Batle Creek. Miya had a lot of fun there too. She was definitely Wendi's girl for the day; she thought she had to hold Wendi's hand ALL day. For a fee, you could feed the giraffes, so Jeff and Miya fed the giraffes. At first Miya liked feeding them, until their tongue touched her, then she didn't want to feed them anymore; she just wanted to watch.

We ended the day true to an Iowa vacation, with fishing. Jeff, Dan, and Marv went fishing and Dan was the bread-winner for the night....Jeff didn't bring home any bread. The competition will be continued...

A Morning with the Girls

Friday morning we met Dawn and her girls, and Grandma Wassink at Kristin's house. From there we walked (FOREVER!!) to the 90th Anniversary Parade for Hudsonville Christian, which Sara rode her horse in and her kids rode on a float for the church. The weather was beautiful and the kids behaved great, all 9 of them! It was a great way to spend a Friday morning... even with all of the walking!

A Night of Fishing

Jeff was home around 7:00 tonight; and we were able to enjoy a family night. We went fishing with Dan at the local pond. Jeff definantly won the nights fishing contest....looks like Dan needs some practice before his bachelor party fishing tournament!! Wendi asked Dan if he thought she was fat, because if they cooked up all of his caught-fish from the night there would be enough for five fork fulls. When we got home Jayden had some fun in her 'jumperoo' for the first time. She did very well holding her head up, only a couple of nose-plants. She does not enjoy tummy time at all so it looks like she will be in the 'jumperoo' more often to strengthen her neck muscles!
Tonight is graduation. In Michigan Tyler graduates and in Iowa Janelle graduates and then it's Janelle's and Brett's open house after that. Wish we could be there. Have fun Brett and Janelle!

Jayden's Baptism

We had Jayden's Baptism Sunday. The Baptism went well, Jeff's arm was drenched and a couple of people asked if Rev. Kleyn was trying to drown Jayden...but she didn't care; she just kept sleeping. Miya also did well in church; no spankings the entire service!! After Church we had friends and family over for lunch at my parent's house. We are so blessed to have such caring family and friends.

My mom was able to make it back from the ER to visit with everyone. She gave us quite the scare Sunday morning with one of her dizzy spells. Dad took her to the ER to try to get to the bottom of this. She has an appointment with a specialist tomorrow....we are praying for an answer as to what is causing these spells.

A Visit From Family

This past weekend was Jayden's Baptism so we had some visitors from Iowa. Grandpa and Grandma Westra came with Kyle and Janelle and Great Grandpa and Great Grandma Hokesbergen also were here. It seems that whenever Grandpa and Grandma are here we have cold weather, as was the case this past weekend. The weather didn't stop the fishing though. When Jeff and Kyle came back from work on Saturday it didn't take long for them to get out the door to go fishing at a nearby pond. We all went and visited them and realized it was much warmer over there than by our house. Miya helped to reel in her first fish. She was not to impressed with it and did not want to touch it...at first! Being the animal lover that she is, she soon warmed up and decided to touch the fish. We had a lot of fun with some of our Iowa family here....we only wish our visitors could stay longer!

A Morning at the Zoo

Aunt Wendi had to go to the Zoo for a school project and she asked if we wanted to go with her. Of course we said yes. Yesterday was PERFECT zoo weather; it was sunny and not too cold or hot. Miya enjoyed the animals, her favorite was the tiger. She was not scared of any of the animals really (which is a little scary for mom). Her favorite thing at the zoo I think was the water. She is enthralled with water for some reason. Hopefully she'll like swimming this year.
Thanks Wendi for inviting us to the zoo!

Rain Day

Yesterday we were blessed with some rain which meant Jeff was home from work by 7:00 and had some time to play with the girls. I think he enjoyed it more than Miya...maybe! We took the girls to the park and then out for an ice cream cone on the way home. Once at home Jeff decided to give Miya a ride on the 'traaaactor' as she calls it, which then turned into pulling the wagon around the yard. Fun was had by all. We LOVE rain days.

A Beautiful Day

Today was a BEAUTIFUL, warm, sunshiny, day. All around us we saw the leaves budding on the trees...purple blossoms on the Magnolia trees...white apple blossoms, and green grass. If that isn't enough there was also the daffodils in the fields and the colorful tulips in town. We were reminded of God's handiwork all around all us. We are so blessed to be able to experience the change of seasons.
After taking some pictures in the tulips we went to Alyssa's soccer game. Spencer Boeve helped Miya stay out of the creek by kicking a ball, around and Jayden didn't want anyone to hold her even though there were MANY willing hands.

We are hopeful for rain tonight or tomorrow....and a time to see DAD!

Welcome

Hello Family and Friends,

After watching my friend Jodi create...and maintain...a blog page, I decided to take the plunge. Hopefully this will be an easy way to keep all of our Iowa family members and friends updated as to what is going on in Michigan. Also, this will force me to send pictures (and take pictures) more often. I'm not going to write much today....I'm just going to try to figure everything out. Keep checking back during next week for more. On Wednesday we are going to go the Tulip Time Parade, if the weather permits, so on Thursday I should have some cute pictures posted. As you can see, we need to take an updated family picture :-)
