Day One

Thank you everyone for the prayers and support. We know we have a long road ahead. As for now, we will take it one day at a time and treasure every minute we are blessed to have with Melanie. Melanie's care and future is in the Lord's hands, and we rejoice and feel contentment in knowing that!

Here is an update from day 1 as I'm unable to sleep right now. Please keep in mind I'm still groggy and may have gotten some facts wrong....Jeff will have to clean up after me later :)

Tonight we were taught a general routine of how to care for baby Melanie. They go through this routine about every 4 hours and call it her "Care Time" Jeff was able to help with part of it tonight hopefully I'll be able to help tomorrow.

This is a picture of Jeff taking Melanie's Temperature

Moving the monitor from one foot to the other. Because of the ventilator we are not able to hear Melanie cry...yet However, I think in this picture she is crying. :(

Here is Melanie's home/crib for the next while. The bed she is currently in has humidity being pumped into it to keep her warm and to help her skin (I think...) The nurse was explaining what to watch on the monitors to know when Melanie is happy from our touch, or when she is being overstimulated from our touch.

As you can see, her bed has two arm holes (on either side) so we can hold her and more importantly the Dr. and nurses can take care of her. This is a picture of the nurse holding Melanie to weigh her. She said we'll be able to hold her next time. Jeff was actually able to hold her tonight at a different time. He came back to the room one very proud papa after being able to (kinda) hold his baby girl.

We were told tonight not to pet, rub, or grab Melanie as this is annoying to her. She prefers to feel boundaries, just like in the womb. So this is a picture of how we are to hold her. Once I held her this way her little monitor showed she was happy, which brought tears to Mommy's eyes! She also rubbed her toes on my hand Coincidence, yes, but I'm going to tell myself she was loving me back!

Good Night hug from mom and dad! We love you to pieces already!
